Geotechnical Investigations
The Geotechnical Investigations Section is responsible for the preparation of materials
reports for bridges, channels, and roads, analysis and stabilization of landslides,
preliminary geotechnical investigations, rock slope protection, petrographic analysis
of concrete and rock construction materials, forensic geotechnical investigations,
and grading of construction projects.
This section performs the folowing:
- Borings, penetrometer tests and open pit tests to determine the foundation types
for bridges, spread footing or pile type, with recommended depth.
- Deep borings (up to 100') for large cuts and fills over unstable areas and recommends
slope configurations.
- The administration and technical review of consulting engineering contracts to perform
major geotechnical investigations.
- The review of soils and geological reports for road and bridge construction to be
accepted for County maintenance.
Foundation Design
A Senior Civil Engineer analyzes the material at various elevations in order to
make recommendations for the foundations of bridges, channels and roads.
